All About The Asbestos Compensation Claims.

By Tom Doerr

In many parts of the world, asbestos was known to be an ideal construction material. Most constructors acquired it for construction purposes. It was cheap and easily available. It is fire-retardant hence attracted many people who were involved in construction work. Asbestos compensation claims arose as a result of many people who sought compensation due to deteriorating health they suffered from the exposure to its fibers.

The material is made up of sharp and relatively large fibers. The fibers are not strongly attached to each other. As a result, during construction, a slight movement causes the fibers to float in the air. The workers who do not have masks are more likely to inhale these fibers. The fibers travel to the lungs where they start causing damage since lungs are not able to expel them. Due to their sharp nature, they pierce the lungs and find their way into the inner tissues.

Many respiratory problems can be traced to these fibers. Asbestosis was first diagnosed among textile workers. As a counter mechanism to the presence of fibers in the lungs, the body produces an acid that is meant to dissolve the fibers. Unfortunately, due to the strength of the acid, the walls of the lungs get scarred hence slowly damages this organ.

The mesethelial lining of the lungs and chest cavity is affected by mesothelioma which is a type of a cancer. Once diagnosed, one succumbs to the disease within 12 months. Survival chances are quite slim.

Lung cancer is also linked to this material. Workers who are affected by the fibers file for compensation claims. Litigation is an option where the employer is not willing to cooperate with the workers claim.

Employers should be sensitive to the needs of their employees. Any asbestos compensation claims should be addressed immediately. Delaying to address such matters would be risking the life of the employee as the fibers result in cancer related diseases.
