Workers Compensation is a Win

Win Game For Both the Employees

and the Employers!

For the entrepreneurs workers compensation insurance is an expense that can sometimes turn out to be a bit too heavy. Its an integral component of a business and an employer cannot forgo it at any cost. Workers can get injured while carrying out their jobs and if they have some sort of medical coverage they can rest in peace. A workers compensation is a win win game for both the employees and the employers.

It's a great stress reliever for both of them. When an employee gets injured while on duty he/she becomes eligible for cash benefits. Depending upon the injuries sustained and the condition of the injured person there are various types of benefits that a worker can receive. Broadly an injured worker can receive:

Medical Treatment

Temporary / or Total Disability Payments

For example, if an employee after being injured misses three days of work he/she receives disability payments of up to 2/3rd of his/her average weekly wage.Likewise, if a worker is unable to work or remains absent continuously for more then 14 days he/she receives payments for the first three days of work missed. There is a third situation wherein employees can receive compensations. Sometimes a worker can have a permanent impairment.

A situation may arise when there is no change or little improvement in the injury even after the worker has received complete medical treatment.A worker who has a permanent impairment and this condition of the worker has happened as a result of a work related injury are eligible to receive monetary lump sum payment. Such a payment received by the worker is known as 'impairment payment'.

But, to receive such a payment workers are required to have their permanent impairment assessed. Specially trained doctors who are also called Independent 'Impairment Assessors' can only assess permanent impairment. Workers in order to become eligible for lump sum monetary benefits have to lodge an impairment benefit claim. All such workers who have filed a compensation claim are required to get themselves examined by an 'Independent impairment Assessor'.

There can be a case when a worker has sustained multiple injuries from an accident that has occurred while he/she was working. In such situations the injured worker in order to make himself/herself eligible for compensation may need to attend more then one impairment examination.Although, there are some discrepancies in the way these claims are settled still they are good for both the employer as well as the employee.
